As more and more undercover footage is being released that details the horrendous cruelty that occurs on Factory Farms and Slaughterhouses across the United States, local governments are responding, but not in the way you would think.
Instead of condemning the cruelty, governments are making it illegal to record the abuse. This is incredibly alarming as it allows these horrible practices to continue completely unregulated and keeps our society in the dark about the reality of where our food originates. Today Democracy Now reported on these recently created “Ag-Gag” Laws. Please watch the report and become informed: http://bit.ly/ZLs9qP
Why is this important?
The creation of these laws is a problem because if local governments make it illegal to show the facts, then no one will see or believe what is the reality of our food production system. Our every-day decisions impact our planet and therefore it is critical to understand that our consumer choices shape policy and practice within industrialized food production systems. We must be willing to hear the truth, even if it is so hard to accept, and make informed choices that benefit people, animals, and the environment.
