Moments: Oophaga pumilio parent

Poison Dart Frog

Do you think amphibians care about the well-being of their offspring?

Poison Dart Frog

Without a doubt, yes. I am currently in Costa Rica and I have witnessed a beautiful scene in the natural world. This afternoon I observed a Strawberry Poison Dart Frog, Oophaga pumilio, carry a tadpole from the forest floor and deposit it into a bromeliad. This frog carefully examined each pool of water that collected within the plant in order to determine if it was an appropriate nursery for the tadpole. All the while the tadpole stayed on back on this dedicated parent.

When the frog was not satisfied with the pool of water, then it would continue to climb. When the frog settled, the tadpole was released into the pool of water. The parent will do this for the many other tadpoles who are still waiting to be delivered into their own pools of water.

With dedicated mothers and fathers like this, then the next generation is guaranteed to thrive.

What are Moments? A moment is a brief period of time that often reflect importance. Whether it is a feeling, a sunset, or a sensation, we all experience moments that shape our futures. Hopefully this moment I share with you will allow you to reflect on the moments you experience in your own life.
